Sure enough, he’s in love again already.

FOUR flirtatious love letters from Ian Fleming to the woman who became Miss Moneypenny, James Bond’s secretary, are to be sold in London.
The author wrote them to Loelia Ponsonby, third wife of Bendor, 2nd Duke of Westminster, whom she divorced in 1947. They were written before and during the Second World War, when Fleming was at the War Office. The correspondence addressed to “Darling L” and “Dear Loelia” is full of gossip about their upper class circle and their meetings on the London society circuit.

Queen Victoria became the first reigning sovereign to make a train journey when she travelled from Slough to Paddington, London, on June 13, 1842. In 1869 she commissioned a special pair of coaches at a cost of £1,800: a considerable sum in those days. Victoria, pictured right, remains to this day the only monarch to have paid with her own money for Royal carriages to be built.

Think it’s a big deal to play Carnegie Hall? Ha! That place is a mere 118 years old. That’s tyke years to the Forbidden City.
In case you’re looking for something interesting to bring up at a cocktail party over the weekend, the Forbidden City is 588 years old. Built by over one million workers between 1406 and 1420, the “city” at the heart of Beijing consists of 980 surviving buildings inside a rectangular complex approximately 961 meters by 753 meters.
