Oslo – Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit was Monday awarded the country’s Plussprisen prize for her efforts to combat HIV/AIDS. The prize – announced in connection with World AIDS day – was awarded by the Norwegian group HivNorway that was formed to safeguard the rights and interests of people infected and affected by HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Xinhua – November 26, 2008.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Tuesday voiced the country’s keenness to cooperate with Norway in the field of energy, saying there is great potential for energy cooperation between the two countries. 

Erdogan told a joint press conference with Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon Magnus that “Turkey wanted to cooperate with Norway in the field of energy and learned from Norway’s advanced technology.”

After being closed for some time, the fashion galleries at the Kunstindustrimuseet - National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design - are now opened. One of its current exhibition, is dedicated to the history of fashion in Norway. It highlights its multifarious aspects presented through the three galleries, which respectively embody a theme : the Royal Dress Collection, the Fashion 1600s till 2000 and the Norwegian Fashion Designers.

The king of Norway is to be granted one of Tyneside’s highest honours.

The TV recordings showing a young Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby trying to find a date among a panel of suitors, asking them to bark like dogs, is no longer suitable now that she is the nation’s Crown Princess. In view ot this, TV Norge will never show them again.

Back in 1996, Crown Princess Mette-Marit participated in the dating programme “Lysthuset”. On the occasion of the TV station’s 20th anniversary, the production team wanted to re-show the images from the sensational programme, but the station’s very own editors have put a stop to that.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit tripped and fell on some stairs while on an official visit to Ukraine on Monday. The incident resulted in cancellation of her morning program and later, most of the rest of the trip.

Oslo’s main boulevard was cleared of all traffic on Tuesday, and the Irish and Norwegian flags wove side by side. The president of Ireland, Mary McAleese (center, next to King Harald), is in town for a state visit.

Irish President Mary McAleese (3rd L) is greeted by Norwegian King Harald (C), Queen Sonja (L) and Crown Prince Haakon (R) on October 14, 2008 upon her arrival at the Royal Palace in Oslo at the start of a three-day state visit to Norway.

McAleese and her husband Martin are spending three days in Norway this week, starting with all the ceremonial splendour accorded such occasions. King Harald and Queen Sonja are the official host and hostess during the visit, and greeted their guests at the Royal Palace Tuesday morning.
