Centre will benefit locals and tourists
THE Princess Royal visited Northumberland yesterday to open a £10m swimming pool and gym. Princess Anne was in Hexham to help celebrate the extension to Wentworth Leisure Centre.
SMILES Princess Anne is greeted at Hexham, though one of the crowd spots something more interesting.
The building now houses two swimming pools, fun and splash areas and a gym.
The Princess was welcomed by Tynedale Council chairman Coun Mrs Janet Somerville and shown around the building by Tynedale Council chief executive Richard Robson.
Royal visitor will learn of students’ enterprise

Enterprising students at a Northumberland school are preparing to welcome a Royal visitor next week.
The Princess Royal will call in at St Benet Biscop RC High School in Bedlington on Monday afternoon.
She will be briefed on how the school has become a specialist business and enterprise centre, focusing on developing links between education and the world of commerce.

It seems strange that it should take a royal to bridge the gap between ordinary people and policy makers. However, yesterday Princess Anne was the magnet for a meeting that drew people from every level of government and the NHS to the same table as local charities and relatives who care for sick family members.
