Princess Madeleine engaged!

Six months after the announcement of her sister’s engagement, the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, princess Madeleine announced hers on the 11th of August 2009 with her now fiancé Jonas Bergström.

The couple looked happier than ever and quite relax.

Despite the fact that the wedding date is not yet settled, the Royal Court has announced that Jonas Bergström, will become duke of Gästrikland.

The King Karl Gustaf offered to the newly engaged couple a royal household close to the lac of Malaren on the north of Stockholm.

On that day, rumors were going within the swedish media before the royal Court made it finally official at 4 pm. Few hours before, both the Aftonbladet and the Svenskdam wrote about an upcoming official announcement from the palace as they did it and were on the spot for the announcement of CP Victoria’s engagement.

It was at the mythical Villa San Michele (more pictures here and here) in Capri that Jonas Bergström, 30, proposed to “Madde”, 27,  (alias Madeleine) as the swedish press call their princess.

Since they met seven years ago, the couple have a steady and stable relationship without any scandals splashed into the tabloids by keeping their relation private.

Despite knowing  Jonas since she was 17 years-old, it’s only in 2002 that they became more than friends. Madeleine moved the next year with Jonas into his flat in Stockholm. Since they are together, the bright and serious in law student has a positive influence on the then “partying” princess which was Madeleine at that time.

Princess Madeleine started again her studies in History of Arts, became much more involved into her duties and engagements as a princess by working for the Unicef in New York while Jonas was making his internship with the law firm, Holland & Knight, after studying for a semester at the Queen Mary University in London with Madeleine. When the British media got all excited about her being in London, the princess made a press conference in order stopped to the media circus with the stories about a possible meeting with the prince William.

Recently, on the 1st of August, Sonnenverlag GmbH & Co KG – which owns many tabloids – was ordered to pay $560,000 of damages by the Hamburg state court for”untrue and degrading” reports about princess Madeleine. The Royal Court of Sweden released a statement about the issue and pointed out that the princess intends to donate the money she is finally awarded to charity”.
