Crown Princess Victoria Victoria Ingrid Alice Desiree, 31, has been dating Daniel Westling, 35, her personal trainer, for now seven years. Since last year, the couple live together at the Royal Palace. Mr. Westling will receive the title Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland.

In a video clip on the Royal Court’s website, the King and Queen Silvia joined the Crown Princess and the future Prince to comment on the engagement.

“Dear Swedes, at home and abroad. Yes, this is how I tend to begin my speeches on radio and TV when there is something I wish to convey. And, as you may have guessed, there is something very special I would like to convey: namely, the public announcement today of the engagement of Crown Princess Victoria and Mr Daniel Westling,” said the King.

The King then went on to speak about the qualities of his future son-in-law.

“In the past years we have of course got to know Daniel and have understood that he is a young man who works hard and takes life seriously.”

“That is why it is especially gratifying to extend you a welcome. It was with pleasure that I gave my consent and, in line with the constitution, accepted the consent of the government.”

“It is of course a special day for us but it is also a special day for Sweden.”

The Queen Silvia of Sweden added that Daniel “will be an excellent husband for Victoria.”

“If Daniel experiences the warmth and welcome I received from the Swedish people, that would make me very happy.”

“We have total confidence in you and your choice Victoria, and I will do everything I can to support both of you.”

Talking about his future role as a Consort, Daniel said that the most important  for him is to be a support to the Crown Princess in her valuable duties for Sweden. “In time, I hope that I too can help serve Sweden in various ways,” he said.

The Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling are to meet the press in Princess Sibylla’s Apartment at the Royal Palace at 5pm.

At the end of the press conference, a journalist has been able to ask two questions in english for the  international press about why has the Princess waited so long to be engaged and how she will now cope with her royal duties.

To the first question, the princess has explained that she, as most of young people of her generation, wanted to take her time to settle down and to find a good balance between her royal engagements personal life.

To the second question, Victoria said it would be easier for her to assume her future royal duties together with Westling. Still at her side, her fiancé, Daniel Westling, happily added “Much easier”.
