SCALED DOWN: Sophie Wessex, here with Prince Edward, is to have less security
The Mail on Sunday - By Nathan Kay and Christopher Leake
SCOTLAND YARD is studying ways of cutting the cost of security for Royal visits abroad.
The move is part of efforts by the Metropolitan Police to slash the £100million a year it spends on providing the Royal Family with protection.
Since 9/11, the Royals have been given blanket security protection by the Yard.
But last month the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester became the first Royals to visit America without any British police protection. Their security was handled instead by a female Foreign Office official.

An Electronic Sheep scarf appeals to all — gay, straight, boy, girl, young, old.

HAUNTING: The ruins of the medieval manor at Llwynywermod in Carmarthenshire
Daily Express Weekend – November 16, 2008 – By Jimmy Young.
A New Book that explores the history of a Welsh estate bought by the Prince of Wales has unearthed a fascinating connection with his royal heritage: it was once owned by descendants of Anne Boleyn. Mark Baker, author of Llwynywermod: A Royal Home In Wales, reveals that the 192-acre estate, which the Prince bought for £1.2million two years ago and has recently restored, was for three centuries the home of the Griffies-Williams family, direct descendants of Henry VIII’s second wife.
“The Prince was fascinated by my revelations,” says Baker, 23, who was commissioned to write the book by the Historic Gardens of Wales Trust, of which Prince Charles is patron.
